Though the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting much of people criticizing Governor Doyle’s plan to have state employees take 16 unpaid days during the next 2 years, in order to help close the state’s budget deficit, many of their complaints ring false. The furlough plan can work, despite the whiners who claim otherwise.
The article […]

I bought a new cell phone yesterday (along with renewing my contract). It’s a Motorola phone, the only brand I’ve ever owned that works really well. This one’s a bit wider, shorter, and skinnier than my last and seems to work just fine. Really, if it makes calls and generally functions […]

Take a look at these numbers, reposted by Fortune Magazine’s Apple 2.0 blog. While the iPhone is still behind heavyweights like RIM in the smartphone market, its share of the web is huge. Apple iPhone sales represent just 8% of the market, yet generates 65% of the mobile HTML uses. Basically, if […]

With summer about to arrive, Lauren and I ventured out to purchase plants for our planter boxes that have lived, all winter, on our porch. We came back with an array of flowers and some herbs. Earlier this afternoon we planted them and returned them to the porch, where they now look quite […]

Foolishly, the vast majority of senators voted to keep prisoners at Guantanamo Bay and not bring them onto American soil. I am saddened that this included both of Wisconsin’s senators. Instead of forming a responsible plan to close the prison camp, to try those who are suspected of terrorism, and to make release […]

In the second part of my School Technology series, I move away from criticisms of certain technologies and on toward recommendations for making communication work for your school. Blogging, in particular, offers a unique way to give your school a public face, communicate important information to parents and the community, and control your school’s […]

Last night, my dad told me that the public school he works for has started using Twitter. Today when checking out the school’s website, I found their link to their Twitter page and took a glance. Nothing offense or interesting, but further, nothing that makes it seem like Twitter is a good fit […]

Forget what I said earlier about not prosecuting those individuals who tortured people in the name of the United States. In fact, forget any argument I ever made about looking to the future, setting the right tone, and getting past the Bush administration. Forget it all because Dick Cheney won’t forget it. […]

In an effort to strengthen their reputation as the Party of No, conservatives have begun to outline their response to President Obama’s eventual nominee to the Supreme Court. (You can read more about it here.) You read correctly - though there is no nominee yet, Republicans are all ready planning for how they […]

Starting July 5, 2010, smoking will be banned in most every Wisconsin workplace. Yes, there are a few exceptions - some cigar bars (though no new cigar bars can be started) and Native American casinos - but for everywhere else, you can walk into a restaurant and not be asked “Smoking or non-smoking?” […]

Oh my goodness, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted anything new. But now, all my own course work for the semester is completed, and I’ve gotten a great start to grading. By Friday, it is likely that the semester will be done for me. Onward to summer work. I’ve […]

The most successful advertisements match their message with the product, and match the message with the reasons why an individual uses the product. For example, if you were selling a pain killer to adults, you probably wouldn’t talk about how it will help them fit in with their friends. A pain killer is […]

Not that I have that much to do for myself. I have a statistics exam due on Tuesday, a research proposal due Monday, and a data writeup due Sunday. Both papers need only revision to be completed and I’ve started the stats. But I agreed to do two review sessions, two hours […]

No matter was Jeff Bezos might think, there is little benefit from getting the news in a newspaper. I accept the nostalgia factor; it’s very important for some people to continue to get a daily paper. And overall, I like to read things on paper, not on my computer (and certainly not on […]
