VP Pick Coming Soon?

First, today was the first day I took the bus from my apartment down to campus. What a thrill! Other than the fact that they don’t give change, the ride was entirely pleasant. I read for most of it and was pleased by how fast the time passed. Before you knew it, we were at Johnson and Park. I exited and enjoyed a short walk to my destination. I’ll be taking the bus back home again later today.

Now, onto the real meat of this post. Rumor has it that Barrack Obama will be announcing his Vice President choice soon! This should come as no real surprise. The Democratic convention starts on August 25, so unless he will wait until then, he’d best do it quick.

CNN is reporting that his choice seems likely to be Senator Joe Biden from Delaware. It’s an interesting choice, if that’s who he goes with. Biden does have a lot of experience, but he’s also a fellow senator, meaning the ticket lacks any executive experience. But on the other hand, Biden is well-rounded and well-liked. He is also unlikely to have any skeletons in his closet that haven’t already come out. After all, he is serving his sixth term in the Senate.

Interesting information about Biden. In 1972, he suffered great personal tragedy when a car accident killed his wife and one daughter. His other two children survived. He remarried in 1977. His oldest son is a captain in the Delaware Army National Guard. As for Biden himself, he’s got a lot of foreign policy experience, as the ranking member on the Senate’s Foreign Relations committee. This experience is sure to help Obama with his foreign policy credentials, if indeed he does choose Biden.

I’ll be perfectly pleased if Obama chooses Biden. He seems like a solid pick. It would have been nice to see someone like Bill Richardson chosen, as he was my pick for the Presidential nomination. And Virginia Governor Tim Caine could have been an interesting pick, someone with good executive experience (and a Southerner to boot!). We’ll have to see how it all plays out.

Followup from my post on the Media criticizing Obama for not having won yet: Frank Rich wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times partly about that very subject. Read it here.

Obama(/Biden?) 2008!
