Keys!
I went down to campus today for a meeting of Communication Arts incoming graduate students. Our heads were filled with important information about how the department works, et cetera. Afterwards, I was able to pick up my office assignment and two keys – one for my mailbox, one for my office room (the specific room has six desks in it, one of which is mine). Very exciting! I think the last time I had a job that gave me a key was when I was 16, working at a camp in La Crosse. For my last job, I had a key card, but that’s very far from the same thing.
Keys are power! They’ve got nice heft. And they make pleasing sounds when inserted into a lock. Especially this key for the office door. I quickly put them both onto my keychain, which is getting a bit heavy. It doesn’t help that the key to my car is gargantuan. I’m seriously debating taking that key off, as I have no need to take it to campus with me. These new keys are a good addition to the other keys I carry.
In other news, tomorrow, Lauren and I will meet up with Levi and Tony at the Terrace. This will mark the first time that Levi, Tony, and I have gotten together since, I think, high school! That means it would have been sometime in 2001, probably in Advanced Math. During this class, we would ceremoniously lift a conic section cone to our table as class began each day. When class ended, we would retire the cone.
Believe it or not, this silly cone was very important. I composed music that we would play for both occasions. And I have the actual files.
Once you have listened to these, you should get a good feeling for how ridiculous we were during this math class. And, it is possible that this same level of ridiculousness may be achieved tomorrow. On the other hand, Lauren will be there, and I would hate to subject her to that. Perhaps it will have to wait until another time.
