Reminders of Paris: Music Videos

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Lauren recently brought to my attention the fact that some of the wonderful French music videos we enjoyed watching while in Paris are available online! Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, we never have to be without our favorite French artists. As we spent most evenings indoors from 8-9 PM onwards, each night we were in Paris, there was much time to fill. Thankfully, our apartment came with satellite television, including several channels dedicated entirely to music videos.

Here are some of the videos we enjoyed most.

1. Melissa M. “Cette Fois” (“This Time”)
This video was great, because it seemed most like American music. I can totally see Melissa M. making in the US, if she wasn’t like every other female pop singer already popular.

2. IAM “Coupe Le Cake” (“Cut the Cake”)
Lauren and I could never figure out what this video was about. It doesn’t seem to tell much story at all. But the hook is catchy and strange, so we always jumped up whenever it came on.

3. Soprano feat. Blacko “Ferme Les Yeux Imagine Toi” (“Close Your Eyes and Imagine Yourself”)
This video was the most popular, mostly because of the hilarious singing of the artists’ names (“Soprannnnnoooo, Blackoooooooo”) towards the end of the song. Plus, just the idea of having two popular artists with such ridiculous names…

The sad part is that there are so many more music videos we enjoyed, but we can’t remember either the song title or the artist’s name! There was the one with the guy getting upset about getting a parking ticket (among other things), the one where the woman threw paint all over an office, and the one that recreated “Rear Window.” Oh, Paris!
