Class Assignments
Oh my, the world of academia is once again open to me! I can’t yet sign up for classes (not until summer sometime, apparently), but I’ve been looking to my heart’s content. How do some of these class titles grab you?
Public, Community, and Alternative Media
Communication for Complex Organizations
Mass Media and Youth
Rhetoric and Technology
To me, they seem new and exciting.
My excitement has been raised by the knowledge that I will be TA’ing for Comm Arts 368: Theory and Practice of Persuasion. I’ve not taken this class before, and it is not open to freshmen, meaning I will find myself leading discussion sections (5 per week) for some experienced and intelligent folks (and even if they were freshmen, they would still be intelligent). That is intimidating to me. I’m hoping to get my hands on the books early. If there is one thing I am good at, it’s advanced over-preparation. I’m the kid (like many readers here, I’m sure) who, through 8th grade, finished the novel the night it was assigned and came to school the next day bored with class because everyone else had only read pages 1 to 20.
School is also feeling that much more real to me. Since I’m still on my work grind, slaving away stuffing cash into the corporate cow, I haven’t had much time to think about how my life will be different. But last night I put my class schedule on my calendar and got to stare at it. Wow – lectures on Tuesday/Thursday and discussion sections on Tuesday and Wednesday. I looked at other classes too, just to see what would fit with my schedule. It looks like I may have Mondays and Fridays with no class, ala senior year, second semester. That would be all right by me, as I will take full advantage of that time.
Anyway, big exciting changes coming my way soon! I can’t wait to register!
