Gimme Money!

Hey, you with the check book, I need $189.3 billion for next year! Don’t ask me why or what or who or how! Who do you think I am, the answer-man? Hell no! I am the spender! The cash gatherer. Father knows best, and who’s your daddy? I just need it, okay. And if I don’t get it, you’re not hurting me, oh no. You’re hurting yourself, really, because everyone is going to hate you. So GIMME THAT MONEY!

Seriously, Bush wants that much for the wars next year. Let’s say we’ve got 150,000 troops over in Iraq and we decide to pay them all $1,000 a day (pretty good pay!). That’s still only $54 billion, a little more than 1/4 of the money! Per hour it’s $21.6 million. Per day $518 million. Per week, it’s $3.64 billion. Holy cow! How is that even possible? Where in the world is all the money going? Probably all the filet mignon the troops are eating.

Harry Reid has vowed to fight the request – but what can he really do besides work to put in some sort of timetable? He can’t refuse the money, even if the request makes no sense at all. When will we learn – whatever benefit we want to get from Iraq cannot, CANNOT, be worth the cost we are suffering right now. This war isn’t working, and more money is not going to help a thing.
