Tony’s Showing Me Up!

Hey, Tony, knock it off! You and your constant blogging makes my blog look downtight boring. All of a sudden, I’ve gone from star-blogger to boring loser. Just because I’m busy doesn’t mean you can take my spot! I’ve gotten used to your silence, but now… now, you’re the public’s favorite. I’m left out in the cold, all because I haven’t tickled these keys in a while.

So, what, exactly have I been doing? The past two weeks, I’ve been traveling for work. Two weeks ago I was in Detroit, the location from which I wrote my last post. Last week, I was in New York City! I’d never been to New York before, so it was quite an exciting trip. It’s not as if I was able to see much, but simply being in the city was quite a thrill. I had a great view of the city from my hotel room window, 26 stories up, and was able to have a great view of the buildings around me, the busy street below, and so on. It’s definitely a city I would like to visit again as a tourist (even though it’s quite pricy).

So there’s that, and there’s work too, in general. I’ve just recently, however, on the experience of Lauren, formed a post-New Year’s Resolution to work less. I look at it this way. When I get to work at 7:30, as I’ve been doing for most of the past several months, I still leave at 5:30. On Friday, and yesterday, when I got to work at 8:30, I still left at 5:30. I started to realize that A) unexpected things that keep me late will not be any more or less taxing depending on when I arrive early and B) if there is a lot of work to be done, I can always get to work early the next day. Of course, I got to work at 8 today and didn’t leave until 6:30, but there’s always going to be anomolies like that, I figure. Anyway, point being, I’ve got work to take away from time to write.

What else, what else. We’ll chalk up the rest of my time to that spent with Lauren. We had a relaxing weekend, saw some movies, went out to dinner a couple of times, and basically relaxed. It was just what I needed after two weeks of travel. And Sunday, the snow was wonderful as it kept us in to play Scrabble and drink tea. In fact, I even got a little shovelling to do – the end of Lauren’s driveway after the plow had gone thru. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy shovelling (sometimes).

In other news, in between my two trips, I made it to LaCrosse, primarily to sign a new cell phone plan and get a new phone. After much consideration, I went with the Motorola KRZR. I knew that I wanted to go with Motorola. I’ve had just two cell phones prior to this one – a Motorola and a Kyocera. The Motorola was an extremely basic phone, but it always worked very well. There were no bugs in its interface, it never had battery problems, and it got pretty good signal. I wish I could say the same for the Kyocera. I went with a phone more based on style than substance and got the Slider. While I liked its design, it really never worked right. The vibrate function would frequently stop working, I couldn’t configure it the way I wanted, and there were plenty of bugs, including ones that would cause the phone to lock up (once in a while), stuck ringing, when a call was coming in.

So, when thinking about the KRZR, I knew I was getting Motorola reliability, but I was also getting that further element of good design. I wasn’t interested in the RAZR, as everyone has it. But the KRZR is still thin and packed full of features. Now, I just need Bluetooth on my computer and I’ll be all set to take full advantage of the phone. I’ve even been able to transfer over some mp3s to use as ringtones. In fact, if you call me right now, my phone will play Raffi’s classic hit, “Bananaphone.”

So anyway, that’s it. The State of the Union address is tonight, so I’m set to watch that. I may do live blogging during that like I did last year. Already last year for that hilarious post? Wow. Anyway, I’ll try to do better, like Tony.
