The Future…
I really appreciate people who take the time to both make predictions of what the coming year will bring, but also go and revisit those predictions once the year is up. I read an article doing this very thing regarding video games. You can check it out here. I don’t necessarily think that the article is particularly good, but I find the whole thing inspiring.
So, in the spirit of the new year, here are my predictions for the coming year.
On Politics
1. A new Democratic congress will make Bush use his veto power a lot more, but will fail to make any real changes in US policy. Instead the focus will stay on the 2008 presidential election with both parties set on getting out the best candidates early.
2. Iraq will stay unstable. The current government may resign. Radical forces will gain more political power. Despite pressures for the US to leave, Bush will continue to “stay the course.” No reduction in troops for 2007.
3. Some juicy information about the Bush administration will come out of new pressure on finding the truth behind the motivation for the war in Iraq. Bush will feel the heat from the media, but his poll numbers won’t be pushed any lower. Talk of impeachment will circle among liberal critics, but Congress will not go that route.
On Microsoft
1. Microsoft will see the 360s numbers slide as more PS3s and Wiis become available. While the 360 will remain a competitor, it’s now in a real fight to not slide down into third place. The Zune will turn out to be a failure. When Apple releases it’s updated iPod, any appeal that Zune had outside of “it’s not an iPod” will be gone. So terribly sad.
On Me
1. I will continue to enjoy my job, but may find myself more interested in pursuing something outside of work. This may lead to flirtations with the idea of graduate school. Overall, however, my life will continue to be stable and calm and relaxed… just like always.
And that’s it! Those are my predictions for 2007. I wish I would have stuck myself out there a little more, but I think that safe is alright, as this is the first time I have decided to make predictions for the coming year. Now all we have to do is sit back and see what happens.
