JonBenet and John Karr

Just when you think the story was over, finally, after the death of JonBenet’s mother from cancer, 10 years after her death, suddenly we learn that a suspect has been arrested in Thailand. And not only is he a suspect, he’s also really weird. And talking all kinds of “I was with her when she died” whatever. So they hauled him over here to California and then to Colorado. As soon as he arrives, the story gets even more interesting. Turns out they aren’t going to file any charges against him. The DNA found on the girl doesn’t match John Karr’s DNA. Sure he may still have some legal issues to deal with – something about child porn – but he’s not going to be charged for the reason he arrived in the first place.

So who cares about this story, right? Here’s the tipoff for those of us who saw it coming. Yah, me included.

A) The guy is crazy. CLEARLY CRAZY! Now, do crazy people not commit crimes? Of course they do, but not this guy. He told authorities that he picked the girl up from school the day before her death. He picked her up from school on Christmas Day? And when his family says he was at home with them? Sure, they can’t find any pictures to prove it, but you’d be surprised how many subjects I don’t have pictures of in my 6000 photo collection. He said her death was an accident. She was killed by a wire wrapped around her throat that was tightened with a paint brush. Accident? He could have still done it and been crazy, but come on. And he’s telling all this to investigators and the media as they are bringing him in. He’s crazy.

B) The tipoff came from e-mail. Some professor or somebody in Colorado was trading e-mails with Karr for the last 5 years, and finally, finally got enough “evidence” that made authorities believe he was their guy. If someone would please like to start corresponding by e-mail with me for 5 years, I’ll convince you I did just about anything. It’s like talking with someone in a chat room and using that “evidence” to finger them for a crime. E-mail is NOT reliable. And any stupid investigator who thought that it was had better be paying the price now.

C) This case is messed up. There’s no apparent motive, except for the parents. There’s no true evidence besides some DNA found on the girl. And the case is cold, ten long years over, after being one of the most publicized cases in recent memory. Plus, the girl was a little freak, messed up by her mother (a psycho former beauty queen). Those videos of her competing in these little girl beauty pagents make me sick. It’s like the movie ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ turned into a horrible nightmare of truth.

So the case drags on, no truth to be found. They’ll probably end up with a DNA match someday. Somebody will get arrested and BAM, there’s the killer. Unless of course the parents did have something to do with it. And they hired someone. Who knows? But until then, I’ll be waiting another 10 years before there’s enough of a drag in Colorado that they need to stir up some trouble again.
