And Your Mother Is Dead

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Your Mother Is Dead – that is the name of my band, founded just recently. It’s a name Dan and I came up with, after trying to think of a good name for a punk band. This band will be the name under which I release my third album. Membership is extremely flexible. If you want to be in the band, you can be, but you can’t play an instrument that you already know how to play. If you can play piano, then you could play drums in the band, but not piano. I’ll be leading the group, playing guitar and singing. And until we get some real skills within the band, I’ll be doing bass, drums, and anything else as well. Now, I don’t own drums or a bass, so I’m planning to just use my keyboard. Cheap? Absolutely. That’s a central feature of the band.

Yesterday morning, as I sat and thought more and more about this band, I decided to register the domain YourMotherIsDead.com. It’s a pretty awesome domain name. Too bad the website isn’t awesome. I haven’t really had time to work on it. Expect something up soon. I would like to work on a graphic for the band. If anyone would like to draw a pregnant woman, in profile, hanging from a noose, let me know. That’s what I want to use for the website. It should be pretty awesome.

I’ve done a lot of errand running this morning and am now about to pack my bags and head to Sun Prairie to pick up my mom’s SUV, before driving to La Crosse, to load up my sister’s stuff and move her into the dorms on Sunday. She’s moving in early because she is starting an administrative position and has to get trained and stuff. I’m not exactly sure what she’ll be doing, but it’s probably really important.

I’ve burned some great CDs for the drive. One band I’ve been listening to a lot lately is Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They are pretty awesome, and highly recommended. Also, I’ve burned albums by Wolf Parade, Man Mantis (local artist), and Gnarls Barkley. Hopefully these discs will keep my entertained.

I’ll write more later, but be sure to check out YourMotherIsDead.com in the next few days to see how the site is shaping up.
