Sittin’ Around

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

I made it to La Crosse with my sister just fine and dandy, set up my wireless router, and am here in the livingroom, surrounded by aunts and uncles (okay, only one aunt, but you get what I’m saying). Still, it’s pretty boring here. I tried to fall asleep for a while, but that didn’t really work. I should hope in a car and go drive somewhere, but I don’t know anyone ’round these parts to go visit. Mai is spending Thanksgiving with Brittany, so she’s not even home (she’s from La Crosse) to go see. And nothing is open at all, so I can’t go look at things I have no money to buy.

I look back on yesterday and the beginnings of today and wonder – what have I been doing? Well, Katie and I got here around 3:30 and my grandparents arrived shortly afterwards. That immediately meant things were not going to be as boring as they could be. I got my stuff unloaded, set up my router, checked my e-mail and so on. I read my book until supper at 6:30. After supper, we all sat around. My mother and I enjoyed a game of Scrabble, which I WON! It was the first time I had ever beat her at Scrabble, and I won by more than 100 points. So that was pretty great. My grandparents went to bed, and I myself went to my makeshift bed in the basement around 10:30 intent on watching a movie.

I watched ‘Johnny English’ starring Rowan Atkinson. It was neither good or bad. But it sure wasn’t ‘Mr. Bean.’ The story is absolutely ridiculous and still doesn’t make sense to me when I think about it. The acting was quite bad from the villian, played by John Malkovich. Everyone else did fine. Anyway, Rebeca sent me a text message around 11:30, and I texted her back. So that was something to break up the boring movie. I finished it around 1 and went to sleep.

This morning, my uncle Brian arrived before I got up around 9:30. My aunt Susan and uncle Jim arrived an hour later. I showered and got dressed and whatnot. My grandmother made some soup for lunch, which was delicious. Now everyone is cooking or sitting around and reading or napping or typing on their blogs (well, just me). I hope that my mother, aunt Susan, and grandmother enjoy being in the kitchen and cooking dinner for the rest of us. I’m not doing anything to help and not motivated to do anything either, but I feel bad about that. Should they need help, I’m sure they would ask, but still… should I be helping too?

I got word from Tony today that he is stranded with Zach in Platteville after Zach’s car broke down outside of Madison. That’s trouble for Tony, though I hope that he is alright. They have food and will cook, so I am sure that things will be fine. Still, Thanksgiving with Zach?! I shudder at the possibility. Haha. Anyway, this leaves me with the dilema – should I go home or not? I was mainly excited to go so that Tony and I could go see the 4th Harry Potter movie. But now what reason do I have other than to see my dad? I guess that ought to be reason enough, and I will go. Better to be bored there than to be bored here or bored all by myself.
