Humor

Friday, July 8th, 2005

I was recently reflecting on how important a quality humor is for me when seeking a girlfriend. I don’t necessarily require that the woman be funny, but it is an absolute must that she laugh at the things I have to say: the funny stuff, at least.

I was reminded of this when at Buffalo Wild Wings with Dan. Buffalo Wild Wings is a bar/restaurant serving general fair, known for their buffalo wings and their signature sauces. We only go their on either Tuesday (to get 35 cent wings), Wednesday (50 cent legs), or Thursday (75 cent chicken tenders). It was Thursday, which is our favorite day to go. Dan was ordering first, to a woman behind the counter. She appeared about our age, and I was feeling humorous, as I often do when standing in line with roommates. Dan said he would have 8 tenders, I said, feigning shock, “8?”, and the woman laughed. Dan said he wanted 2 sides of hot barbacue sauce, I said “2?”, and she laughed again. While waiting for Dan’s check card to process, I pointed to a menu item, the Garden Burger, and said it would be funny to order it with bacon. She laughed again.

This string of jokes I had going and the woman’s reaction to them really made her a lot more attractive to me. Not so much in the physical sense, but I felt like she had a much better personality, even though I never got to talk to her. It’s interesting that this ties in with Dan’s infamous quote, “You don’t have to have a conversation with a girl to get to know her.” I almost am willing to accept that it might have been true in this instance. Her simple laughter really helped me feel as if I knew her better than when I came in.

Now, in the end, of course nothing happened between us, though wouldn’t this be a shocking story if something HAD happened. Rather, as we picked up our order, I said to her, “Have a good night,” and she responded in kind. It was a nice end to a pleasant trip to get food.

In other news, I do believe that I am going to get a haircut tomorrow. This is the longest my hair has ever been and I think it may be time to go short again. I am going to ask the cutter his or her opinion, so we shall see what we shall see. I also may buy a cool pair of shoes tomorrow. I’ll keep you all updated.
